North Shore Synagogue Marketing and Communications Manager (part time)

 

About NSS:

North Shore Synagogue is over 80 years old and was the first orthodox Jewish community established on Sydney’s leafy North Shore. With over 400 members across all age groups, the shul has a wide range of regular activities, a good leader in Rabbi Lewin and a very supportive Board of Directors.

Summary:

We are looking for our first dedicated marketing specialist (initially 8 hours per week) because we want to engage better with our members, creating a more vibrant community around the synagogue, and ultimately growing our membership base.

You will be a creative and energetic marketing professional with experience in marketing and communications roles. You will have a proven track record of building and implementing marketing and communications strategies and campaigns for a relevant organisation or brand.

 

High level responsibilities:

  1. Be the ‘member-first’ evangelist.

  2. Ensure consistent brand voice, look and feel in all internal and external communications.

  3. Develop and manage marketing and communications for calendar of celebrations and commemorations.

  4. Actively identify marketing and promotion opportunities through traditional and digital channels:

    1. E-newsletter content creation and compilation

    2. SMS message management

    3. Social media - Facebook, Instagram, YouTube

    4. Website improvement and content updates

    5. Print marketing

  5. Gain positive media coverage in Jewish and local media.

  6. Work with NSS team members (office, rabbi, youth director, choir master etc) and volunteer groups, to find ways of continuously improving the way things are done.

  7. Increase member and non-member participation in shul activities.

 

Expectations:

  • Work with NSS staff and Marketing Committee to set marketing and communications plan.

  • Manage all areas of communications and marketing, media outreach and PR, copywriting, digital presence, and events promotion.

  • Manage all aspects of website and social media and continue to grow our online presence.

  • Work with external providers, including graphic designers, printers, and others to create quality communications products when can’t be achieved in-house.

  • Use existing Jewish and secular channels to promote the synagogue and its activities, and grow the reputation of the NSS brand.

Essential experience and knowledge:

  • Min. 5 years marketing and communications experience, preferably with a track record in a similar cultural environment.

  • Experience in devising and implementing marketing and communication strategies.

  • Experience in delivering marketing and communication strategies within a small team, providing colleagues with necessary training and support where required.

  • Experience in producing web content and effectively using a range of digital and social media channels.

  • Experience in writing copy for print, online and media/public relations.

  • Experience in writing customer/member copy.

  • Experience with evaluating the effectiveness of online campaigns using online analytics tools such as GA.

 

 

Skills and abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work to deadlines.

  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, to work independently and as a team player.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed with minimal supervision.

  • Good knowledge of Jewish customs and practices.

  • Familiarity with the Sydney Jewish community.

  • Experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications strategy and tactics (incl campaign development).

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills including an ability to write promptly and fluently.

  • Experience designing and producing online and offline marketing assets.

  • Track record of creating content for digital and social media channels.

  • Exemplary attention to detail.

 

Technical and technology experience

  • Using design software such as Canva or similar to create content and marketing assets.

  • Project management / collaboration platforms such as Asana or similar.

  • CMS platforms such as WordPress, Wix or similar.

  • Email marketing platform such as MailChimp or similar.

  • Setting up and managing paid social media advertising campaigns.

  • Proficient use of social media platforms for marketing.

 

Nice to have:

  • Basic video editing.

  • Experience using CRM systems.

 

Important information:

  • You must have your own ABN (Australian Business Number) to be considered for this role. If you don’t have one, you can apply for one.  Work will be undertaken as a contractor.

  • The role is for 8 hours per week and an initial 6-month period, with view to long term and more hours in the future.

  • You must be available to start from 19 July, 2021.

  • Occasionally you will be required to work outside of typical business hours to support shul activities.
